[Identified] Workaround to Enforce YouTube Restrictions Since we are currently unable to enforce YouTube restrictions for SmartPAC and DNS, we wanted to pass along a workaround. You can follow "Option 1: DNS" on this article. https://support.google.com/a/answer/6214622?hl=en#zippy=%2Coption-dns 1. Open your network’s DNS settings. 2. Add a CNAME for the following hostnames: www.youtube.com m.youtube.com youtubei.googleapis.com youtube.googleapis.com www.youtube-nocookie.com 3. To set strict restricted access, set the CNAME value to restrict.youtube.com. To set moderate restricted access, set the CNAME value to restrictmoderate.youtube.com. This will help enforce YouTube Restricted mode while devices are on your network.

[Identified] We have confirmed an issue with accessing YouTube through Securly Filter when using SmartPAC/DNS. Our team is actively working with Google to resolve this problem. In the meantime, we have implemented a temporary solution, which unfortunately means we are unable to enforce restrictions, block/allow specific videos, or log YouTube activities for SmartPAC/DNS requests. If your school does not want open access to YouTube, we recommend adding YouTube to your Global block list (if using DNS) or Custom policy block lists (if using SmartPAC) as soon as possible. Important: This issue does not affect users accessing YouTube through the Chrome Extension. All features for Extension users remain fully functional.

[Investigating] YouTube issue: Customers have reported issues with accessing YouTube through Securly Filter when using SmartPAC/DNS. We are working directly with Google to address the problems, in the interim we have implemented a temporary solution which will mean we are unable to enforce restrictions, block/allow videos, or log YouTube activities for SmartPAC/DNS requests. If your school does not want open access to YouTube, you should consider adding it to your Global block list (if using DNS) or Custom policy block lists (If using SmartPAC) as soon as possible. Important note: this should not affect Extension users and all features should remain in place for those users.

[Investigating] On Wednesday (10/30) we received our first complaint regarding YouTube videos not playing as expected. Since then, approximately 25 customers have reported the issue with YouTube. Our testing has confirmed an issue is present when a user is signed into YouTube and going through Securly proxy (DNS and SmartPAC only). The issue presents as the video showing a black screen with the words “Video Unavailable. This content isn't available”. The only known workaround is to have the user sign out of YouTube. We are working with our developers to further investigate the issue. So far we have no reason to believe a Securly code change has caused the issue. We have reached out to our partners at Google to see if they can find out if this was caused by changes in their end.
